Robert Edmund Bramble III ‘81, former running back for the American International College football team, will be added to the 2019 AIC Athletics Hall of Fame.
Bramble played for the Yellow Jackets from 1977 to 1980. A standout at running back and an electrifying kick returner, he earned Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) All-Star honors in 1978 and 1980 and won the Gold Helmet Award, given annually to the most outstanding Division II-III football player in New England.
At the time of his graduation, Bramble ranked fifth all-time in rushing yards with 2,630. After a successful collegiate career, he spent time with the Denver Broncos, New York Giants, and Buffalo Bills of the NFL, the Ottawa Rough Riders in the CFL, and the USFL’s Arizona Wranglers. He also earned the F.J. Maloney award, presented annually to the most outstanding male and female student-athlete throughout their years at AIC.
Following his playing days, Bramble spent 15 years as varsity head coach at John Jay High School in Brooklyn, NY, with a coaching record of 76-68-4, including an undefeated 9-0 season and Metro League B division championship in 1996. He then spent 14 years as junior varsity head coach at Tottenville High School in Staten Island, NY, with a coaching record of 132-21, including 14 straight Sal Somma Bowl championship appearances, winning eight. The Pirates also enjoyed four undefeated seasons during Bramble’s tenure.
Bob lives in Staten Island, NY, with his wife Lisa. The Brambles have four sons: Jose, Jesse, Franky, and Otto.
