As a player, Bailey captured the 1969 Western Mass Junior Championship, the 1975 Western Mass Assistant Professional Championship, the 1980 Western Mass Open Championship, and the 1981 Western Mass Chapter PGA Championship, making him the only competitor ever to win all four tournaments. He qualified to play in six PGA tour events, was the medalist a U.S. Open Qualifier held at Longmeadow Country Club, and finished in the top-10 of the Connecticut Section point standings.

Bailey served as President of the Western Massachusetts Chapter of the PGA, served as New England Section Senior Director from 2008-2010. He was the head professional at Springfield’s Veteran’s Golf Club before moving on the same role at Wethersfield (Conn.) Country Club from 1981-2001, and was later served as the Director of Golf at Brae Burn Country Club from 2001-11, which are two of the top-ranking courses in New England, and served as Co-Chairman of the annual Western Mass Tee Party.

Bailey has received a number of PGA awards during his career, including the Connecticut Section PGA 1990 Teacher of the Year and 1996 Golf Professional of the Year awards, the 1995 Spaulding Northeast Merchandiser of the Year and the 2010 New England Section Merchandiser of the Year. He was ranked as the No. 2 golf instructor by Golf Digest in 2000, and was named one of the top instructors in Massachusetts in 2003 and 2004.  Bailey currently serves as a teaching professional at Stow Acres Country Club (Mass.) and Grey Oaks Country Club (Fla.).
