Dick Dukeshire was a four-year member of the baseball and basketball teams at AIC and also played one year of varsity soccer. On the diamond Dukeshire broke the single-season hit record as a freshman and served as team captain as a senior. In basketball Dukeshire was the team’s leading scorer as a freshman and was a member of three NAIA tournament teams. In 1956, he received the Mahoney Award as the Outstanding Senior Athlete at American International. 

Following graduation Dukeshire was the head basketball coach at Northeastern University, where he amassed over 200 victories while leading the Huskies to six NCAA appearances and was named New England Coach of the Year twice. He then served as head coach of the Greek National Team from 1971-72 and 1975-80, and later coached at Hellenic College (1980-85), where his squads posted two unbeaten seasons, and Salve Regina College (1985-87). Dukeshire is also the founder and served as first commissioner of the Division III Commonwealth Coast Conference, and oversaw the expansion of the league from six to 13 schools during his tenure from 1983-87.
