Gayton Salvucci was a standout on the gridiron and the baseball diamond for AIC. At the time of his graduation in 1953, he owned every rushing and scoring mark in the AIC record book and he was an All-New England center fielder in baseball. After getting drafted by the Green Bay Packers, Salvucci served a stint in the US Army, and upon return was the Packers' last cut in 1955. One year later, he was named head football coach at AIC, becoming the youngest head coach in the country. Salvucci served as head football coach for 15 seasons from 1956-70, the longest tenure of any AIC football coach.

After AIC, he joined the football staff at Holy Cross, serving as backfield coach and chief scout, and in 1978 joined an NFL scouting combine. Salvucci then joined the Massachusetts Department of Commerce and Development while still remaining active in scouting for various teams in both the NFL and CFL. He was still actively involved in scouting at the time of his death in 1998.
