He still holds the school record for longest punt, booting a ball 78 yards against Springfield College in 1941, and held the school record for touchdowns in a game (4) until it was broken by Glenn Dumont. He garnered Little All-America honors and was a three-time All-New England selection.

Following graduation, O'Grady would stay involved at AIC with numerous roles, serving as a head coach in baseball and men’s golf while also working as an assistant coach with the football and men’s basketball teams. He also worked as the athletic department's sports information director and also completed a stint as Director of Athletics. O'Grady also served as the College's purchasing agent and managed the campus bookstore before retiring in 1982, ending 43 years at AIC.
