Chris O’Connor ’84 has been elected to the American International College Athletics Hall of Fame.

O’Connor was a dominant force in both the outfield defensively and at the plate for the Yellow Jackets. After graduating from Cathedral High in 1980 following an All-Western Mass. and All-State selection his senior year, O’Connor made his presence felt in his 93 games with the team over three years, batting .405 with 142 hits in 351 at-bats, 38 of which were for extra bases. That average ranks third all-time in program history. He ended his career as the leader in program history in stolen bases with 53, a record which stood until this most recent season.

Unsurprisingly, O’Connor racked up awards as quickly as he did hits. He was a three-time First-Team NE10 selection, taking Second-Team All-New England in 1982 and First-Team in 1983 and 1984, and was selected to back-to-back Collegiate All-Star Games at Fenway Park in those two seasons. He captained the squad in 1984 and earned the College’s Alvin J. Carocari Award in his senior year as well.

O’Connor is currently the Vice President of Sales at School Specialty, Inc. He joins teammate Jim Van Houghton ‘84 as the second member of his graduating class to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, and his head coach for his first season, Rich Bedard, will also be inducted this year.
