Larry Freed, class of 1968, was an outstanding two sport athlete for American International College. Freed was a force to be reckoned with on both the basketball court and the baseball field.

In his three seasons with the basketball team, Freed scored over 570 points, before the three point line was added, and pulled down almost 450 rebounds. He shot almost 45% from the field in the 74 games he saw in the Yellow Jacket uniform. He was a part of the first Yellow Jacket basketball team to reach the NCAA Tournament. In his varsity three seasons, the Yellow Jackets went 58-19 and made two Elite Eight Appearances.

On the baseball field, Freed is second all-time in career ERA with a 0.82 ERA, and is on the single season ERA record book twice at 0.55 at 1968, third place, and 1.00 in 1967, fifth place.

In 1968, Freed was the winner of the F.J. Maloney Award as the most outstanding athlete for four years.

After AIC, Freed started working for Westinghouse as well as serving for six years in the Army Reserves. In 1970, he started a career in insurance and investments and his company was in business for over 30 years. During his time as a businessman, he was a member of the Springfield Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors for 30 years, 20 of which he served as treasurer.
