Charles Maher was a member the Yellow Jackets' men’s tennis team, playing at first singles and first doubles each year. He was ranked No. 1 in New England Men's Open singles and mixed doubles during the 1986-87 season, while also attaining a top-10 ranking in Florida Men's Open singles. He received the team's Sportsmanship Award in 1984. 

He has been the head coach and assistant coach of Massachusetts Institute of Technology men's tennis team and coached Springfield's Cathedral High School girl's tennis team. He was a board member of Springfield Tennis Opportunity Program and has coached for Charlestown Against Drugs Program. A teaching pro in Florida and Massachusetts, Maher just completed a video show at MIT for tennis author and personality Oscar Wegner. 

Maher has competed in tournaments in Canada, France, Portugal, Poland, and Nigeria. He is currently training to travel and compete on the men's pro tour once again with Andres Gomez, the 1990 French Open Singles Champion who was once ranked fifth in the world for singles and doubles.
