SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts – American International College Interim Head Football Coach Dan Chipka announced the hiring of Michael Blochowski and Dan Carr to serve as associate head coach/defensive coordinator and pass game coordinator/wide receiver coach, respectively.
"We are excited to have Mike and Dan join our staff here at AIC," Chipka said. "Coach Bloch, as we call him, brings a wealth of experience as both a former head coach and associate head coach along with an established record of success leading and coordinating defense. Dan brings a great deal of knowledge and expertise on the offensive side of the ball, with a strong reputation for developing players and an ability to articulate technique. Both are outstanding teachers with backgrounds as educators."
Blochowski has spent the majority of his career coaching at St. Francis de Sales High School, in Toledo, Ohio. For 30 years, Coach Blochowski served St. Francis in a multitude of roles including head coach, associate head coach, defensive coordinator, and position coach. In all, Blochowski helped lead SFS to nine (9) City League Championships, two (2) District Championships, one (1) Regional Championship, and in 2001 winning the OHSAA State Championship.
While working with Chipka at SFS during the 2019 and 2020 seasons, the defensive unit ranked near the top of the region in numerous categories and helped lead the Knights back to the OHSAA playoffs.
"I have aspired to make my jump into college football, after retiring at the high school level," Blochowski said. "I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with Coach Chipka again and continue to build the AIC football program back to the winning ways, while focusing on the development of our players on and off the field."
Blochowski attended Bowling Green State University, earning a BSBA in Management Information Systems. Mike and his wife, Kris, have two sons, Josh and Luke.
Dan Carr comes to AIC after two seasons at New Mexico Highlands University. He coached wide receivers in 2022, and served as the pass game coordinator and running backs coach in 2023, while being promoted to interim offensive coordinator for the final three games of the season.
Prior to NMHU, Carr was a graduate assistant at the University of Utah in 2021 and New Mexico State University in 2020. While at Utah, Coach Carr helped the Utes finish with a 10-4 overall record, while winning the PAC-12 Championship by defeating Oregon for the second time that season, earning a bid to the Rose Bowl in a matchup versus The Ohio State University.
"I'm excited for the opportunity to come to AIC and work with Coach Chipka and his staff to build this program," Carr said. "I am excited with the vision that Coach Chipka has and the direction that this football program is headed."
A native of Tucson, Arizona Dan attended Arizona Christian University where Carr played both wide receiver and defensive back and helped transition the ACU football program from a start-up NAIA program to a back-to-back conference champion.
