NATIONAL CHAMPION! Elson's mile wins DII title, leads AIC's 15 All-Americans at Nationals

PITTSBURG, Kansas - Callum Elson claimed the sixth national title for the American International College track and field team on Saturday, March 12, winning the one-mile run at the NCAA National Championship, and accounted for two of the 15All-American selections the team claimed at the meet.

800-Meter Run: Clement Paillon 2nd (1:50.46)
ONE MILE RUN: Callum Elson1ST (4:08.59)
5000-Meter Run: Ezra Mutai 12th (14:04.45)
60-Meter Hurdles: Yvan Lopes Ribeiro 7th (19.72s)
4x400-Meter Relay: AIC A 10th (Bailey Murphy, Silas Choge, Junior Pontes Da Veiga, Marvin Dure; 3:21.87)
Distance Medley Relay: AIC A 4th (Jason Beaver, Marvin Dure, Clement Paillon, Callum Elson; 9:39.26)
Long Jump: Yvan Lopes Ribeiro 9th (7.38m)

Women:
60-Meter Hurdles: Roxan Foster 6th (8.58s)
Triple Jump: Adia Cavalier 8th (12.28m)

NATIONAL CHAMPION:

  • Elsonwon the one-mile run in a time of 4:08.59, becoming the sixth track and field national champion in program history.
  • He is the first student-athlete in AIC and Northeast-10 Conference history to win the one-mile run.

ALL-AMERICANS:

  • The top eight finishers in each event earn First-Team All-American status, while ninth through twelfth earn Second-Team All-American.
  • All 11 AIC athletes earned All-American status.
  • Elson and Clement Paillon earned a pair of First-Team accolades, together as part of the distance medley relay and then individually in the mile and 800-meter run.
  • Yvan Lopes Ribeiro and Marvin Duregathered two All-Americans, one First-Team and one Second-Team; Ribeirowas a First-Teamer in the 60-meter hurdles and Second-Team in the long jump while Dure took part in the distance medley relay that earned First-Team status and the 4x400-meter relay that was Second-Team.
  • Jason Beaver was First-Team All-American in the distance medley relay.
  • Roxan Foster earned First-Team status in the 60-meter hurdles.
  • Adia Cavalier was First-Team in the triple jump.
  • Rounding out the All-Americans were Ezra Mutai in the 5000-meter run and Junior Pontes Da Veiga, Silas Choge, and Bailey Murphyin the 4x400-meter relay.

TEAM SCORING:

  • AIC's men racked up 25 total points, finishing eighth as a team, the best finish in program history.
  • AIC's two women earned four combined points.
