The Don Hansen Football Gazette All-Region Committee released the 2016 NCAA Division II All-Super Region One squad on Friday, January 13. Four Yellow Jackets were honored for their play.
Defensive lineman Danny Omoregie was the only Yellow Jacket to receive first team honors. The 6'1" senior from Lynn, Massachusetts was the Northeast-10 Defensive Lineman of the Year.
Three other defensive players were named to the third team: senior linebacker Jerrod Shelby, junior cornerback Devonte Dillon, and senior Daquan Holmes.
The Don Hansen team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen, from Brookfield, Ill., started and published Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988. Don Hansen's Football Gazette began selecting Division II All-Region squads in 2003.
The first-team and second-team All-Region selections advance to a national ballot from which the 2016 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America team will be named later this month.
California led the first team with eight selections, while Shepherd had six, and Kutztown, East Stroudsburg, New Haven, Bloomsburg, Slippery Rock and Fairmont State all had two each.
Shepherd led the overall team with 13 selections, California had 12, LIU-Post with 11, IUP nine, Kutztown, Fairmont State, New Haven and West Chester getting six and Lock Haven, Edinboro, Notre Dame, Assumption and Bowie State all with five selections.
Super Region 1 is compiled of universities from four conferences including the PSAC, MEC, NE10 and the CIAA. A total of 40 teams and 146 players are represented on this team.
