BOSTON, Massachusetts - The American International College track and field team competed at the Riverhawk Invitational, hosted by the University of Massachusetts-Lowell at the TRACK at new balance on February 6-7.
On the men's side, rookies
Nnaemeka Amaechina and
Cameron Lampkin impressed in the field events. Amaechina jumped 13.62 meters in the triple jump, taking seventh, while Lampkin fired a 12.76 meter throw with the shot put, good for eighth and a collegiate career best by 0.61 meters.
It was the women who truly shined, however, especially
Sydnee Collins and
Hawaye Adams. The rookie sprinter Collins blew past her career best with a 24.83-second time in the 200-meter dash, passing teammate
Jodiann Ebanks for first in the Northeast 10 Conference and East Region in the process. Collins is the lone runner in the East to break 25 seconds in the event this season.
Adams, meanwhile, lifted off in the triple jump at 11.26 meters on her fourth attempt after her initial attempt was 11.21 meters. Both of those are the top showings in the NE10 this season, and she ranks fourth in the East Region in the event.
AIC will turn its full attention to preparing for the NE10 Championship, which will be held at the TRACK at new balance on February 19-20.Â
