WILMINGTON, Delaware- The American International College volleyball team took a trip to Delaware to take part in the Wildcat Invite hosted by Wilmington University.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
MATCH ONE:
- The Yellow Jackets jumped out to the 3-0 lead thanks in part to a couple of Tiger errors. The Tigers then came back to tie the game at four. Holy Family started to roll as they forced an AIC timeout with the score at 11-7. They kept rolling as they took the first set 25-15.
- Coming out of the first break, the Yellow Jackets started the set with a 15-8 lead. AIC kept churning along, but late in the set, the Tigers came back and tied things up at 19. Holy Family went on the take the set 26-24.
- AIC led 7-5 when the Tigers went on a 6-0 run to take the 11-7 lead. The Yellow Jackets came back and made it a one-point game, 14-13. Tied at 23, the Yellow Jackets forced two errors and got kills from junior outside hitter Jana Potic and sophomore outside hitter Andrea Serra to take the set 26-24.
- Down 16-9, the Yellow Jackets buzzed back to make it a 16-14 game and forced a Wilmington timeout. Despite the push, the Tigers took the set 25-20 and the match 3-1.
MATCH TWO:
- The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 13-8 lead early in the match. The Wildcats then went on an 8-1 run to take the 16-14 lead. AIC rallied back to tie the game at 16. With things knotted up at 23, the Yellow Jackets used back-to-back kills from senior outside hitter Diva Rivas-Reyes from senior setter Dolores Kopren to take the set 25-23.
- The second set was one of the most thrilling sets of the season for AIC. Wilmington battled back from 22-17 to tie the game at 22. The teams kept battling and trading one-point leads. Tied at 35, the Wildcats took the next two points to take the set 37-35.
- The Yellow Jackets jumped out to the early 4-0 lead in the third set. Down 9-7, AIC had a 5-0 run to take the 12-9 lead. Wilmington went on a 14-1 run to end the set and take the third set 25-15.
- The fourth set once again started out as a tight set. Down 7-6, the Wildcats went on a 13-2 run to take a 20-8 lead. The Yellow Jackets answered back with a 10-2 run to make it a 22-18 game. The push was not enough as the Wildcats took the set 25-18 and the match 3-1.
GAME NOTES:
- With a kill in the third set, senior outside hitterDiva Rivas-Reyesbecame the fifth player in program history with 1,000 career kills. She also jumped into fourth place in program history with 1,026 kills. She currently trials Sarah Neaves, who has 1,148 career kills, by 122.
- Rivas-Reyes also moved into sixth place in program history in points with 1089.5. She currently trails Zane Berzina who scored 1123 points in her four years at AIC.
- Kopren's 47 assists against Wilmington is her highest this season. Her previous high was 45 at Post on August 29.
NEXT UP:
- The Yellow Jackets will play two more matches in Delaware tomorrow, Saturday, September 7. They will take on Jefferson at noon, then will face Chestnut Hill at 2 p.m.
