WEST HAVEN, Connecticut The American International College volleyball team hit the road to take on the University of New Haven in a rematch of 2017's East Region Final. Despite a competitive effort, New Haven took the match over the Yellow Jackets by a score of 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Chargers came out in the first set swinging as they took the early 5-1 lead. The Yellow Jackets strung some points together quickly, though, to take their first lead of the match at 6-5. Tied at eight, AIC started to swing the set in its favor, jumping out to a 15-8 lead. The Yellow Jackets continued to roll as senior setter Dolores Kopren dumped the ball over the net to take the set, 25-18.
- Tied at seven in the second set, New Haven had a 5-0 run that extended past an AIC timeout. The Yellow Jackets fought back to make it a two-point game, 14-12, before the Chargers extended their lead to seven, 20-13. AIC kept the set going with a late push, but the Chargers took the set, 25-20.
- Up 9-6 in the third set, the Chargers went on a run to jump out to a 20-10 lead that eventually ended at 25-13.
- With their backs against the wall, the Yellow Jackets jumped ahead 12-6 in the fourth set. The Chargers stuck with their game plan, and were able to tie the match up at 22 to force an AIC timeout. AIC had set point at 25-24, but New Haven ended up taking the set, 28-26.
GAME NOTES:
- With a kill in the third set against Holy Family on September 7, senior outside hitterDiva Rivas-Reyesbecame the fifth player in AIC program history with 1,000 career kills. She also jumped into fourth place in program history with 1,070 kills. She currently trails Sarah Neaves, who has 1,148 career kills, by 78.
- Junior outside hitterJana Poticjumped into sixth place in program history in kills against Stonehill College on September 11. She currently has 960 kills. She trails Jamie Hutchison by 42 kills for fifth place.
- Rivas-Reyes also moved into fifth place in program history in points with 1,137. She currently trails Jamie Hutchison, who has 1238.5 points in her career at AIC. Right behind her is teammateJana Potic, who had scored 1,121 points in her career so far.
