BROOKEVILLE, New York- The American International College volleyball team rounded out its nonconference season with a trimatch at LIU Post on Sunday, October 14. The Yellow Jackets swept Bentley University in a non-conference matchup before falling to LIU Post, 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1:
- Leading 4-2 early in the first set, the Yellow Jackets went on a 6-1 run to extend their lead to eight, 11-3. On their way to taking the first set, 25-15, the Yellow Jackets at one point had an 11-point lead, 19-8.
- Tied at three early in the second, AIC rallied off seven points to force a Bentley timeout. The Yellow Jackets held off a late Falcon push to take the second set, 25-17.
- Unlike the first two sets, the Falcons had an early seven-point lead, 14-7. The Yellow Jackets trailed 15-9 when they started to make a late push, and went on to take a 16-15 lead. Up 20-18, the Yellow Jackets took five straight points to take the set win at 25-18.
Game 2:
- The Pioneers and Yellow Jackets were tied at five when LIU Post started to pull away, as they took the 15-7 lead. The lead was too much for the Yellow Jackets to overcome, as the Pioneers took the first set 25-16.
- Tied at 16 in the second half, the Yellow Jackets took an 18-16 lead before the Pioneers came back to tie it up at 19. LIU Post kept its run going as it took the 24-19 lead. AIC made a late push, but it was too late, as LIU Post took the set, 25-22, and a 2-0 lead.
- With their backs against the wall, the Yellow Jackets refocused for the third set. Tied at three, the Yellow Jackets started to control the set as they took a 14-9 lead. The Pioneers fought their way back and tied the set up at 20. Tied at 22, AIC took the next two points before LIU Post answered with a point of its own. Junior outside hitter Jana Potic gave the Yellow Jackets the set, 25-23, on a pass from senior setter Dolores Kopren.
- Late in the fourth set, the score was tied at 22. Once again, the Yellow Jackets took two late points to take the 24-22 lead. The Pioneers once again took a point back before the Yellow Jackets took the set, 25-23.
- In the deciding fifth set, the score was tied at four when the Pioneers jumped ahead, 8-5, before eventually taking the fifth set 15-8.
BUZZWORTHY:
- The team's 42 kills against Bentley on Sunday is the team's third-highest total in a three-game set this year. The only two games where AIC had more kills in a three-set match were on September 11 against Stonehill College (46) and on September 25 against Saint Anselm College (48).
- With a kill in the third set against Holy Family on September 7, senior outside hitterDiva Rivas-Reyesbecame the fifth player in AIC program history with 1,000 career kills. She is currently in third place in program history with 1,177 kills. She trailsEllisha Terry, who had 1,286 kills from 2008-11.
- Potic recorded her 1,000th career kill at Adelphi on Saturday, September 29. She also recentlyjumped into fifth place in program history in kills. She currently has 1,104 kills. She currently trails her teammate, Rivas-Reyes.
- Potic jumped ahead of Rivas-Reyes in total points in program history on Tuesday, October 2 at Franklin Pierce. Potic currently sits at 1,284.5 points while Rivas-Reyes has 1,252 points. Potic currently trails Neaves, who scored 1,317 points in her career at AIC.
