Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Dobbs Dials In as Men's Basketball Downs Chestnut Hill, 74-63

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. Senior Cameron Dobbs (Albany, N.Y.) led all scorers with 22 points as American International College defeated Chestnut Hill, 74-63, in non-conference men's basketball action this afternoon from the Butova Gymnasium.

The Jackets (3-7) used a 13-4 spurt that started midway through the opening half to get out to an 11-point lead after a lay-up from senior Trahmier Burrell (Albany, N.Y.) made the score 27-16 at the 2:48 mark.

The Griffins (4-7) trimmed into the lead connecting on back-to-back buckets following the Burrell basket, but junior Juwan Moody (Pontiac, Mich.) hit a pair of free-throws in the waning moments for the 30-21 halftime advantage.

AIC continued to extend their lead jumping out to as much as 14 points after Dobbs drained a pair from the Charity Stripe for the 46-32 lead at the 15:01 mark.

Chesnut Hill then mounted a mini-run to climb back to single digits as they used a 13-7 spurt over the next five-plus minutes with sophomore Edward McWade (Wildwood, N.J.) collecting six points over that span for the 53-45 deficit at the 9:37 mark.

The Yellow Jackets expanded their lead back to double-digits on the ensuing possession as Dobbs was true from distance for the 56-45 lead which they continued to maintain throughout the duration of the half.

The Griffins got things to as close as seven on a pair of occasions even as late as 62-55 after McWade hit a pair from the line at the 4:15 mark, but it was as close as they'd get as the hosts hit some free-throws and dribbled out the clock for their second consecutive victory.

Burrell joined Dobbs in double-figures with 13 points and he grabbed a team-high eight boards. McWade finished with 17 points and 11 boards to pace the Griffins offense.

Chestnut Hill controlled the glass 45-35, but had 18 turnovers including 12 in the first-half. American International shot lights out going 23-for-53 (43.4 percent) from the field including a 48 percent clip in the second-half. The Griffins shot 37 percent (23-for-63) for the game.

AIC now takes 10 days off for Christmas Break before returning to action as they continue their 4-game home stand by hosting Holy Family on December 30th at 4 p.m.
