MANSFIELD, Mass. Seven members of the American International College women's soccer squad have earned post-season All-Conference recognition as announced by the league office earlier Friday morning.
Senior Romina Bell (Stockerau, Austria) led the way earning a first team nod for the first time in her career after earning second-team recognition the previous two seasons after a third-team performance as a freshman.
Bell was second on the team with four goals and four assists for 12 points as one of the best defenders in the league. She helped lead the nation's 30th best defense to a 0.66 goals against average a rank good for third in the conference.
Junior Jessica Margaretta (Coloniers, France) and graduate student Rachel Edgin (Whitesboro, N.Y.) each landed spots on the second-team after impressive seasons.
Margaretta earns post season honors for the third straight season as she returns to the second-team after garnering a first-team selection last season. The junior is one of the best midfielder's in the conference causing multiple turnovers per game while generating scoring chances down the other end. Margaretta finished the season with eight points on three goals and pair of helpers for AIC.
This marks the second straight season that Edgin has earned this distinction after being recognized last season as a member of the Assumption Greyhounds. In her career this is the fourth post season honor for Edgin as she also collected All-Rookie team after her freshman campaign and she was a third-team selection during 2013.
Including the postseason contest against Assumption she totals 11 shutouts to top the conference while her .865 save percentage and her 0.66 goals against average ranks her second in the NE-10.
Senior Alyssa Werbicki (Chicopee, Mass.), junior Brianna Kenney (Longmeadow, Mass.) and freshman Federica Frew (Melbourne, Australia) each earned third-team honors while Frew and classmate Johanna Nilsson (Ulricehamn, Sweden) also landed on the All-Rookie team for their performances this season.
Werbicki paced the Yellow Jacket attack up top this season with 15 points on seven goals and one assist and earns her first post season accolades in her career. For Kenney it is also her first time being recognized by the league after she played a strong right back all season helping the defense to national status.
The junior also created numerous scoring chances with her speed racing up the side and sending crosses into the box. She only registered one assist, but paved the way for team members to create shots and assists.
Both Frew and Nilsson started a little slow as they needed to adjust to the American game and customs, but after a few weeks the rookies started to shine garnering weekly recognition as Frew finished the year with five goals, four of which were game winners, and one assist for 11 points while Nilsson found the back of the net three times and assisted on four other scores to collect 10 points.
This marks the second time in three seasons that AIC has landed seven players on All-Conference teams as they accomplished the same feat during the 2013 season.
