ORANGEBURG, New York - Powered in part by stellar goalkeeping and by a hat trick from Milagros Zanatelli, the American International College field hockey team made sure Head Coach Sammy Marchand's debut behind the bench was a success, as the team sank Dominican University 4-1 on Monday, September 7.

AIC is 1-0 on the season.

It was a tense first quarter, but neither team scored, thanks to a defensive save in the middle of the frame by Kylee Rinker as well as a stellar stop late in the period by Quinlyn Moll.

The shutout was broken quickly in the second. Fenna Voll entered the circle and fired a turnaround shot that was blocked, but it rolled toward the net and was misplayed, ending up over the line at 0:37 of the period for her and the team's first of the year.

Dominican answered less than five minutes later. On a corner, Moll made the initial save, but Annabelle Docksteader was there to put the rebound back at 4:47 for her first of the season and the first in the new program's history.

Having given back the lead, AIC applied more pressure, and quickly regained the edge. On a netmouth scramble, a Maite Solari bid deflected right to Zanatelli, who jammed it underneath the goalkeeper from the right side of the net at 6:14 for her first of the season.

Zanatelli was not done, either. A foul from behind on a breakaway saw the Yellow Jackets awarded a penalty stroke, and she zipped it into the top left corner of the net at 12:33 for her second of the game, ensuring AIC led 3-1 at the break.

In the third, both teams pressured to no avail; Dominican came close on a shot that Emma Fabi pulled off the line, but AIC had the balance of possession in the frame and continued to lead into the fourth.

With less than 10 minutes to play, the Chargers drew a penalty stroke of their own. Frederique den Hartog was up to the task, however, batting away the Iris Kuper bid. 

Not long after, AIC put the game away on a corner play. Maddie Darling drove the ball in from the top of the circle, and Zanatelli was there to finish the job and cap the hat trick at 8:12.

Moll earned the win with three stops, while den Hartog came up with five stops. 

For Zanatelli, the three-goal performance gives her three consecutive multi-goal games dating back to 2025; she has nine total goals in those games.

AIC will open Abdow Field on Saturday, September 12 at 10:00 a.m. against Millersville University.
