Millersville pushes past field hockey

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - Millersville University used a late-third period surge to put away a 4-0 win over the American International College field hockey team on Saturday, September 12.

AIC is 1-1 on the season.

The first period was mostly uneventful, with just three shot attempts between the teams.

In the second, Millersville broke through with a penalty corner goal. On Lauren Kampi's insert, Peyton Bean fired a shot that deflected off of a defender and in at 5:41.

Millersville nearly added another at the very end of the period on another corner, but Fenna Voll swept the ball off the goal line for a key defensive save to keep the score 1-0 at the half.

The Marauders struck twice late in the third; Lani Derickx finished a feed from Allison Clark at 12:14, and Aftyn Robbins fired a buzzer-beating goal into the net to leave the Yellow Jackets down 3-0.

Bean scored her second of the game at 12:19 of the fourth for the 4-0 final.

Frederique den Hartog made nine saves in the loss; Voll had two defensive saves and Victoria Nelson made one as well.

AIC next visits Saint Thomas Aquinas College on Monday, September 21.
