RUTHERFORD, New Jersey - It was a dominating performance all around, and the American International College women's soccer team earned the ultimate result it deserved in a 1-0 win over Felician University on Saturday, September 5.
AIC is now 2-1-0 on the season.
The Yellow Jackets outshot the Golden Falcons 6-0 in the first half, and broke through late in the period for the lead. On a free kick by
Elena Nunez, both
Emali Goulas and
Liz Braz broke behind the defense, timing their run to stay onside, and Braz tapped the ball to Goulas for the shot that became her first NCAA tally at 39:35.Â
That turned out to be the scoring for the entire game; the Yellow Jackets put another six shots on target in the second to no avail, and
Hedda Haukland made one save in the second half in her debut for AIC to preserve the result.
Sara Avery, who played the first half, earned the win to improve to 2-1-0 on the season; this is the second shared shutout she has been part of after playing one half of AIC's opener against Caldwell before
Emma Roberts took over.Â
AIC has nearly a week before playing again; the Yellow Jackets host the University of Maine-Fort Kent at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 12.
