Women's Soccer downs Maine-Fort Kent

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College women's soccer team earned a 3-1 win over the University of Maine-Fort Kent on Saturday, September 12.

AIC is now 3-1-0 on the season.

The Yellow Jackets scored early, as Jocelyn Wilson set up Liz Braz on the right side of the box to be able to step into a shot at the corner of the six; Braz tucked the ball between the goalkeeper and the crossbar for her second of the season at 13:20.

AIC continued to pound shots on goal, but Dreanna Thaw was excellent in making nine saves before the half expired, still 1-0.

The Bengals then tied the game quickly out of the break, with Madi Martin notching an equalizer at 50:21.

AIC bounced back and regained the lead just past the one-hour mark. Savannah Kamperides took a run up the left side before firing a brilliant cross to an onrushing Jocelyn Wilson. The senior was unmarked on the right side of the 18-yard box, and received the pass cleanly before slotting home her first of the season at 61:37.

The home squad then put the game away with just over 10 minutes left. Karoline Eriksen took charge of the ball just above the 18-yard box on the left side, cut free of a defender, and passed across to Zoey Cardano for a one-timer that was placed brilliantly into the upper right corner of the cage at 79:01. The goal was Cardano's first collegiate tally, with Eriksen also earning her first NCAA point on the assist.

Sara Avery played the first half in AIC's net, making three saves; Hedda Haukland made two saves in the second half after conceding the equalizer, and ultimately garnered her first collegiate win. The Yellow Jackets held a 16-6 shots-on-goal edge.

AIC continues its home stretch on Wednesday, September 16 with a 2:00 p.m. match against D'Youville University.
