MANCHESTER, New Hampshire - The American International College women's soccer team fell 2-0 to defending Northeast 10 Conference champion Saint Anselm College on Wedensday, September 30.
AIC is now 4-5-0 overall and 0-3-0 in the NE10.
For much of the first half, AIC was even with the Hawks, and early on even had the better chances.
Izzy Eaton came the closest to scoring, beating the defense but firing a shot off the crossbar in the 13th minute, while
Karoline Eriksen had a chance denied by the defense along the goal line in the 29th minute.
As the period wore on, the Hawks tilted the field back, but
Hedda Haukland came up with three saves in a four-minute stretch to keep the game scoreless through halftime.
Unfortunately for the Yellow Jackets, the first shot of the second half found the net, as Amarys Jimenez found Madison Botta at the penalty spot, and Botta tucked the ball just under the crossbar at 45:55.
AIC nearly equalized on two occasions;
Yishmel Dechi fired a shot that Samantha Swidorski had to work to turn away in the 48th minute, and
Liz Braz was denied as well in the 62nd minute.Â
The Hawks put the game away in the 73rd minute on a corner. Jimenez was the taker, and Meghan Deneen knocked it home at 72:55.
AIC managed two more chances down the stretch, but could not finish them.
Haukland made seven saves in the setback.
AIC returns to action during Homecoming Weekend, as the Yellow Jackets host NE10 rival Adelphi University at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 3.
