SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College women's soccer team earned a 2-0 Northeast 10 Conference over Adelphi University in the team's Homecoming Weekend game on Saturday, October 3.
AIC is now 5-5-0 with a 1-2-0 NE10 mark.
Chances were limited in the first half; Kayleigh Goodrich hit the crossbar with a bid in the 19th minute and was denied by
Hedda Haukland twice in a two-minute span just past the midpoint of the period.Â
In the second, however, AIC broke through. Haukland took a free kick from her own side of the midline, and it landed in the Adelphi 18-yard box.
Liz Braz fired a shot that Maddy Catalanotti saved with a diving effort, but
Elena Nunez put back the rebound for her second of the season at 53:25.
Less than 10 minutes later, AIC doubled the lead. A deep ball into the right side of the box was taken by
Jocelyn Wilson, who cut away from a defender and found
Yishmel Dechi alone at the penalty spot. She was able to put away her first of the campaign at 63:24.
That, along with Haukland's continued strong play, was plenty for AIC to pick up three conference standings points. The rookie netminder made nine saves to earn her first career shutout at the NCAA level.
AIC hits the road for its next matchup, a tilt at Southern Connecticut State University on Tuesday, October 6 at 4:00 p.m.
