Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer strikes early, late to shock SCSU

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut - A goal in the 11th minute and a goal in the 81st minute proved enough as the American International College women's soccer team stunned the East Region's fifth-ranked squad, Southern Connecticut State University, with a 2-1 Northeast 10 Conference win on Tuesday, October 6.

AIC is now 6-5-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the NE10.

The first goal came off of a free kick; netminder Hedda Haukland fired a ball into the box from the midfield line, and it bounced off an Owls defender and right to Liz Braz, who headed home her fifth of the year at 10:03.

The Owls were able to tie the game before halftime, with a brilliant cross from Maya Tellier from the right wing that Elizabeth Bishop headed into the net at 36:26.

Undaunted, AIC continued to battle, and late in the second half was able to regain the lead. Braz fed a brilliant through ball onto Flavia Taveri in the left side of the box, and she one-timed home her first of the season at 80:50.

The Yellow Jackets held on from there, allowing no shots on goal the rest of the way and sealing the three NE10 points.

Haukland made six saves in the win.

AIC returns home for Senior Day on Saturday, October 10 at 1:00 p.m. against Southern New Hampshire University.
