HOOKSETT, New Hampshire - The American International College men's soccer team scored first but ultimately fell 2-1 to Southern New Hampshire University 2-1 in a Northeast 10 Conference match on Saturday, September 19.
AIC is now 2-3-2 overall and 0-1-0 in the NE10.
It was a scoreless first half and an even one; both teams put two shots on goal and both goalkeepers denied the chances.
The Yellow Jackets made quick work of opening the scoring in the second, however. Out of a corner kick,
Giorgos Nikolettides fired a pass to the left side for an open
Marco Cabrera, who served it into the six-yard box.
Tomos Shyamapant and Gonçalo Nolasco both timed their runs in brilliantly, outnumbering the defenders, and Shyamapant got his head to the ball to knock home his second of the year at 48:40.
The lead lasted just over 16 minutes before the Penmen leveled the game. Inigo Burusco was bumped slightly at the left edge of the AIC 18-yard box and fell down, drawing a penalty kick that he converted at 64:55.
Just over 11 minutes later, the Penmen scored, and Burusco was involved again, setting up Miguel Gimeno with a brilliant cross to the right side that Gimeno slotted home at 76:19 for the winner.Â
AIC returns home on Wednesday, September 23 for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff against Adelphi University.Â
