Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's Volleyball comes up short at Wheaton

NORTON, Massachusetts - The American International College men's volleyball team fell 25-23, 25-18, 22-25, 17-25, 11-15 to Wheaton College on Wednesday, April 8.

AIC is now 2-18 on the season.

The Yellow Jackets were dominant in the first two sets, landing 14 kills in both frames. Multiple three-point runs were key in the first, and Willie Lopez Morales scored the penultimate kill before an error ended the set in AIC's favor. The Yellow Jackets similarly steadily scored and pulled away in the second, and a solo block by Toreign Foster put the second in AIC's tally.

AIC led 17-12 in the third and looked positioned to sweep when the Lyons rallied, scoring six of seven on one run and closing with five of six, taking the set on a combo block to force a fourth. They opened that set with six of seven and simply held AIC off as they limited themselves to just four attack errors against 22 kills in the pair of sets that led the match to go five.

In the fifth, AIC was never able to find its footing, and despite rallying late, the Lyons took the set and won a reverse sweep.

Despite the setback, several major milestones were hit. Fabian Lugo, who made eight digs, broke his own program single-season record from a year ago with 154 digs on the campaign. Robert Santana, who had a spectacular match overall with 19 kills and 11 digs, became the first player in program history to record 500 kills.

Rian Woods dished 37 assists with three aces and eight digs, and Armani Anderson landed 10 kills and five digs.

AIC returns to East Coast Conference action Saturday, April 11 at Roberts Wesleyan University. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
