Men's Lacrosse drops nonconference finale with Holy Family

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - An early surge and a late run powered Holy Family University past the American International College men's lacrosse team, 23-11, on Tuesday, April 14.

AIC is now 1-13 overall.

The game started well for AIC as Jordan Boyenko scored twice, netting an unassisted tally at 2:20 and striking on a feed from Seven Gillingham 36 seconds later. However, the Tigers rebounded, and across the rest of the half outscored AIC 12-0 to take a 12-2 lead into the break.

Boyenko and Gillingham paired up for two more to start the scoring in the third, with goals at 4:01 and 4:54, and then Jordan Fox found Jacob Ligor open for a tally at 8:45. Boyenko netted another with 10:32 gone in the quarter to bring AIC within 12-6. However, the Tigers scored right off the next faceoff, and netted another before Ligor closed the quarter with a solo tally at 13:36, leaving AIC down 14-7.

Dameer Phifer won a ground ball off the opening faceoff in the fourth and sprinted ahead, feeding Boyenko for his sixth of the game just seven seconds in, and Ligor hit the net at 0:56 as AIC pulled within five.

However, at that point, a lightning delay halted the game for over an hour, and out of the stoppage the Tigers regained the momentum, scoring nine times in the final 13:26. AIC only notched two in that span, with Ligor unassisted at 4:17, and Aiden Moscarello winning a faceoff and scoring at 9:51.

Phifer had an incredible showing, stealing the ball 10 times from the Tigers and grabbing nine grounders; Riley McGraw also snagged nine ground balls. In net, Nicholas Kendall had another amazing showing, making 28 saves.

AIC finishes out the season at Northeast 10 Conference foe Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday, April 18.
