SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - Saint Anselm College demonstrated why it is the second-ranked team in the nation, defeating the American International College men's lacrosse team 21-4 in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup on Wednesday, April 8.
AIC is 1-11 overall and 0-6 in the NE10.
The Yellow Jackets had the first two chances of the game, but after Eddie O'Brien made it 1-0 for the Hawks at 3:29, the rest of the first half belonged to the guests, who scored eight in the first and six in the second despite another incredible effort out of goalkeeper
Nicholas Kendall, who made 14 stops in the half.
Saint Anselm made it 17 before the Yellow Jackets finally broke through on the man-up in the third, with
Jordan Fox feeding
Jacob Ligor for a top-corner tally at 11:47; Ligor added another on a solo effort 54 seconds later.
In the fourth,
Seven Gillingham scored off of an out-of-bounds restart, driving in from the right side and picking the corner at 1:16.Â
AIC's last goal was a solo effort, coast-to-coast tally from
Dameer Phifer, who took the ball from the left side of his half of the field and drove through the middle, rushing past defenders and ripping home his first collegiate goal at 13:51.
Kendall ended the game with 22 saves; Phifer forced four turnovers.
AIC will next play when the team celebrates Senior Day on Saturday, April 11 at 6:00 p.m. against Saint Michael's College.
