CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts - The American International College men's volleyball team fell 17-25, 20-25, 21-25 to Harvard University on Friday, March 6.
AIC is now 1-10.
The Crimson pulled ahead quickly in the first set, as AIC was unable to score back-to-back points until the score favored the hosts 14-8. Even then, the Yellow Jackets only had two two-point bursts, and an ace on set point gave Harvard the 1-0 edge.
AIC put together its first three-point run early in the second to take a 4-3 lead, but the Crimson smothered AIC from there. The Yellow Jackets ended up hitting .000 in the set as the Crimson cruised to a 25-20 set win.
The Yellow Jackets faced defeat, and battled hard, overcoming several deficits to tie the match at 10-10 and again at 13-13. The Crimson again pulled away and earned match point, but the Yellow Jackets made them work for it, as
Emil Zhmaidziak nailed down two kills as part of a four-point rally before the Crimson finally won on an error.
Zhmaidziak led AIC with seven kills; Dymittry Terry scored six and hit .417.
Aidan Miller handed out 20 assists, and
Fabian Lugo made nine digs.
AIC next faces Regis College on Wednesday, March 11 at noon.
