Baseball drops series opener at Palm Beach Atlantic

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida - The American International College baseball team lost a 4-3 battle with Palm Beach Atlantic University to open a four-game set in Florida on Friday, March 6.

AIC is now 2-7.

The Sailfish loaded the bases in the second, but AIC was able to escape the jam. In the third, however, a single, walk, and single plated the first run of the game for the hosts.

That lead held until the sixth, as Cole Patterson it a one-out single. Leandro Guevara then walked, and both advanced on a wild pitch. Josh Frometa's grounder to second allowed Patterson to scamper home.

The Sailfish just as quickly regained the lead; a walk and a double in the home half put the hosts back up 2-1.

The runs kept coming, and AIC plated two to take its first lead in the seventh. Aidan Streeter and Sam Tanous walked, and Yeudy Ramirez singled to pack the bags for Patterson. He delivered, smacking a flare to right that scored Streeter and Tanous.

In the eighth, the Sailfish notched two of their own. A walk and two singles loaded the bases, and a fielding miscue allowed two unearned runs to score. Those ended up being decisive, as AIC was unable to tie the game in the ninth.

AIC and Palm Beach Atlantic continue their series on Saturday, March 7 with a pair of games beginning at noon.
