SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College men's volleyball team fell 19-25, 20-25, 15-25 to Emmanuel College on Wednesday, March 4.
AIC is now 1-9 overall.
AIC used a four-point run to take an early 6-4 lead in the first set, keyed by a kill and two aces from
Jamilson Depina Almeida. Both teams were able to put together short runs, and the match was tied at 15-15 when the Saints took charge for good with two four-point runs, ultimately winning 25-19.
The second set was even early, but another four-point surge pushed the Saints up 12-6. AIC made a change, bringing
Aidan Miller on to set, and was able to close to within four, but never closer, and the Saints finished off the set to go ahead 2-0.
AIC started strong in the third, taking a 3-0 lead, and led 7-4 before a Saints rush flipped things in the guest's favor; they scored seven straight, and extended the lead to as much as nine, then finished off the set with a block and a kill to win the match.
Depina Almeida notched nine kills and hit .238 to lead AIC, with
Robert Santana scoring seven.
Dymittry Terra made four blocks, and
Fabian Lugo led the team with five digs. Miller put up 13 assists.
AIC next faces off against Harvard University on Friday, March 6. That match, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is set for a 7:00 p.m. start.
