SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College men's volleyball team fell 21-25, 19-25, 15-25 to Roberts Wesleyan University in an East Coast Conference matchup on Saturday, March 28.
AIC is now 2-16 overall and 0-4 in the ECC.
In the first set, AIC kept things close, but after the Redhawks took a 12-10 lead they never trailed again; only once the rest of the set did either side score two in a row as the visiting side took the opener.
Roberts Wesleyan jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second, but AIC battled back to get ahead 7-6 before the first major run of the match. The Redhawks scored five straight, and added a second five-point run keyed by a trio of blocks to effectively put the set away, going up 17-10. AIC did score five straight on set point before a kill ended things at 25-19.
In the third, AIC kept it close early, but the Redhawks proved ready to go again, and a five-point run in the middle of the frame put the score out of reach. They confidently closed the set and the match with a kill to complete the sweep.Â
Emil Zhmaidziak led AIC with seven kills and made five digs;
Fabian Lugo had eight digs.
Rian Woods dished out 21 assists.
AIC returns to play Tuesday, March 31 at 7:00 p.m. against Merrimack College at the Butova Gym.
