SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College men's lacrosse team fell 21-5 to the University of Bridgeport on Wednesday, March 25.
AIC is now 1-7 overall.
Both teams scored early in the first, with
Seven Gillingham finishing a feed from
Jordan Boyenko at 3:27 after Bridgeport opened the scoring at 1:17. A lull of nearly seven minutes followed before a three-goal burst in 1:30 by the Purple Knights, but
Jacob Ligor put AIC back on the board at 12:55 and Boyenko netted one from
Jett Bogart at 14:06 to pull AIC within one. However, the visitors scored twice in the final 50 seconds to take a 6-3 lead into the first break.
The run continued for the Purple Knights in the second with two goals in the first two minutes, and the lead grew to 9-3 before Boyenko broke the streak at 9:12. He then set up a late man-up goal for Camden Macdonald at 14:10, leaving AIC down 10-5 at the break.
Unfortunately for AIC, that was also the last goal of the game for the offense, as Bridgeport scored five in the third and six in the fourth for the 21-5 final.
Dameer Phifer had a strong day on defense with four caused turnovers and six ground balls.
Nicholas Kendall made 20 saves.
AIC returns to action on Saturday, March 28 with a 2:00 p.m. battle at Franklin Pierce University.
