ORANGEBURG, New York - The American International College men's lacrosse team fell 14-11 to Dominican University on Thursday, March 12.
AIC is now 1-4 on the season.
Dominican scored first at 4:14, but AIC countered nearly immediately;
Jordan Boyenko finished a chance in front from
Seven Gillingham 34 seconds later. The Chargers responded with a three-goal run, but a penalty allowed AIC back into the game, and Boyenko finished a feed from
Matt Smith at 12:13 to get the Yellow Jackets within a 4-2 margin after one.
Gillingham then hit the net himself to start the scoring in the second, tallying a man-up strike at 5:28 from a
Jett Bogart pass. The teams traded goals, and Gillingham picked up another assist by finding Camden Macdonald open for a goal at 7:02. The hosts found the net twice more before the break, and led 7-4 at halftime.
Dominican scored first again in the third quarter, but another penalty allowed Gillingham to set up Boyenko's third of the game at 1:36. The Chargers scored the next two, but AIC pulled back into the game as
Jacob Ligor scored on a dish from Gillingham at 10:36 and then Boyenko put back a rebound 57 seconds later. The Chargers scored once more before the break, and led 11-7 after 45 minutes.
The Yellow Jackets pulled within two in the fourth thanks to Ligor scoring unassisted at 4:51 and then finding Gillingham free for a goal at 8:14. The Chargers responded, seemingly putting the game away with three goals down the stretch, btu AIC pushed hard to get two more, with Bogart finishing feeds from Smith and Boyenko 17 seconds apart. AIC could not find another, however, and the game ended 14-11.
Aidan Moscarello had another excellent day at the faceoff spot, winning 21 of 28 attempts and snagging 11 ground balls.
Dameer Phifer forced three takeaways and snagged a dozen ground balls.Â
AIC next will play on Tuesday, March 17 at Adelphi University in Northeast 10 Conference play.Â
