SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College men's lacrosse team fell 17-9 to D'Youville University on Tuesday, March 10.
AIC is now 1-3.
The Saints struck for the game's first two before AIC rallied back.
Jordan Boyenko, playing at X, was able to set up
Matt Smith for a goal at 9:08, and after the Saints netted a three-man-up tally, AIC drew a penalty and Boyenko found
Seven Gillingham for a late goal at 14:50, putting AIC within one at 3-2 after one.
D'Youville took control in the second, scoring three times in the first four minutes of the quarter, but AIC was able to get one back as Gillingham found
Jett Bogart open on the left for a tally at 10:57. The Saints scored once more before halftime and AIC trailed 7-3.
Both teams scored in bunches in the third. After the Saints opened the scoring,
Dameer Phifer found Bogart for his second of the game, and Max Smith set up
Matt Smith for his second of the afternoon. The teams then traded goals, with Gillingham scoring unassisted and finding Max Smith open late in the frame. With 15 to play, AIC was down 10-7.
The final frame belonged to the visitors, however; they scored seven times, and despite
Matt Smith capping the hat trick and Boyenko picking up his third assist of the day on a
Riley McGraw man-up marker, D'Youville earned the 17-9 win.
Aiden Moscarello had a career day at the faceoff spot, winning 23 of 29 and grabbing 11 ground balls. Phifer forced three turnovers and snagged seven ground balls.Â
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Thursday, March 12 at 4:00 p.m. at Dominican University.
