WORCESTER, Massachusetts - A late first-half goal gave the American International College women's soccer team the lead at halftime, but three quick goals by Assumption University put the Greyhounds in control of what ultimately ended up being a 3-2 win over the Yellow Jackets in Northeast 10 Conference play on Tuesday, October 20.
AIC is now 7-7-1 overall and 3-4-0 in the NE10.
Hedda Haukland was under seige in the first half, but she was able to stave off chance after chance, turning back 10 bids in total before the break.
Late in the frame,
Flavia Taveri fired a blast from distance, and it sailed into the upper-left corner of the net at 42:39 for her third of the season, giving AIC a stunning 1-0 lead after 45.
In the second, however, the Greyhounds offense clicked. Zhunay Moulton tied the game at 53:41 and put her team in the lead at 60:12, and Elizabeth Schoeneberger added an insurance goal at 62:43.
That proved critical; though the Greyhounds countinued to attack, Haukland made an additional eight saves in the half, and AIC scored with 14 seconds left in regulation.
Emali Goulas fired a free kick into the box, and
Yishmel Dechi headed it off of a Greyhounds defender and in for her third of the season and the 3-2 final.
Haukland's 18 saves were a career best in a single NCAA game.
AIC will look to turn things around in a Saturday, October 24 match against Bentley University. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
