SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College women's soccer team fell 1-0 to No. 15 Bentley University in Northeast 10 Conference play on Saturday, October 24.
AIC is now 7-8-1 overall and 3-5-0 in the NE10.
The Falcons scored the game's first goal on a beautiful passing play, as Rose Frisoli found Rachael Abbott open on the right wing. Abbott crossed a pass into the box to Kendra Foley, who knocked the ball down and then fired into the left corner of the net at 14:39 for her third of the season.
AIC's best chance came in the 73rd minute on a breakaway after a mishandle by the defense;
Jocelyn Wilson was in alone as a result and Holly DiPalo, who had come up to the top of the 18-yard box, had to charge forward and jump in front of the ball. AIC contended that she had played the ball with her arms outside of the box, which, if it had been called, would likely have been considered denial of goal-scoring opportunity, which is an automatic red card. However, the play was ruled legal.
From there, the Falcons took control, not allowing another shot in the win.
Hedda Haukland made 14 saves in the setback.Â
AIC has one remaining game in the regular season, a home matchup against Pace University at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28.
