Women's Soccer strikes first but loses at Daemen

BUFFALO, New York- The American International College women's soccer team fell short with a 3-2 loss to Daemen University on Sunday, September 7, as Kylie Miranto scored her second goal of the match in the 79th minute to cap off the victory for the Wildcats.

AIC leaves Buffalo with a 0-2 start to the season.

The Yellow Jackets sent a message early on, scoring just three minutes into the start of the first half. Senior Kaitlin McDonald gave AIC their early lead.

The Yellow Jackets kept the lead until Miranto got to a cross by Lily Macfarlane, and found the back of the net, tying the game up 1-1 in the 21st minute.

AIC did not lose its momentum and continued to push against the Wildcats. In the 38th minute, Caroline Skov Johansson found Jocelyn Wilson for a through ball into the box. The transfer from Franklin Pierce was able to get the ball off her feet and in for AIC's second goal of the half.

In the 55th minute, Miranto found the foot of Macfarlane, and the junior from England was able to get the ball behind Sara Avery to the side right netting, tying the game at 2-2, and Miranto scored with under 11 minutes to play for a 3-2 lead.

The Yellow Jackets nearly tied the game at the end, unluckily hitting the crossbar with a minute left to play.

Sara Avery made five saves in the loss; Ava Lomax made one stop in the final nine minutes of the game.

AIC will next face Holy Family University on Saturday, September 13 at 3:00 p.m. away in Philadelphia.
