BUFFALO, New York -
Pietro Botasso scored a pair of goals in a back-and-forth East Region battle on the road that saw both teams take and lose leads as the American International College men's soccer team drew 3-3 at D'Youville University on Wednesday, September 10.
AIC is now 0-1-2 on the season.
The Saints wasted no time in opening the scoring, with Finn Savage crossing the box to Ethan Robinson for a strike just 3:15 into the contest.
In the 18th minute, AIC leveled the score. Botasso took a pass from the right side from
Christian Torres and was able to spin free of a defender before firing home his first of the season at 17:50 into the left corner of the net.Â
Both teams had chances across the next 15 minutes of play, but it was Botasso who struck again, knocking in his second of the game and season at 33:37, and AIC then extended the lead barely two minutes later with
Tyler Ferreira putting home his second of the campaign at 35:43.
The Saints countered with one before halftime, as Shawn Richardson set up Luca Mansfield-Osborne for a goal at 41:46, leaving the score 3-2 AIC at the break.
In the 59th minute, AIC drew a free kick on a foul that the Yellow Jackets believed had been committed in the box; a red card was issued against the Yellow Jackets, leaving the team to play with 10 men. The shorthanded situation ultimately aided the Saints, who were able to tie the contest 3-3 at 75:29 on a Dylan Danch tally, which proved to be the last for the game.Â
Javier Solá Martínez made five saves in the tie. D'Youville outshot AIC 14-13 despite a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks for the Yellow Jackets.Â
AIC will finally play at Ronald J. Abdow Field on Tuesday, September 17 when the College of Staten Island visits for a 4:00 p.m. start.Â
