COLCHESTER, Vermont - The American International College men's lacrosse team fell 14-10 to Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday, April 12.
AIC is now 2-10 overall and 0-7 in the NE10.
The first period was tight defensively; Saint Michael's scored the first goal nearly eight minutes in, and AIC tied it 1-1 at 10:20 when Seven Gillingham finished a feed from Tyler Goode. The Purple Knights scored twice down the stretch to lead 3-1 after one.
The home side scored quickly in the second, and though Goode set up Jordan Boyenko for a man-up marker at 1:38, two more Purple Knights goals threatened to put the game out of reach. However, AIC bounced back as Boyenko scored on an individual effort, and then Goode finished a feed from Hunter Terlik. Goode then found Camden MacDonald open for a goal at 9:20 to bring AIC within one. Saint Michael's scored once more before the half, but AIC only trailed 7-5.
The third quarter was scoreless for nearly eight minutes, but Saint Michael's all-time leading scorer, Sebastian Simonson, struck three straight times late in the frame, and one more put the home team up 11-5 heading into the final period.
MacDonald notched the first goal of the fourth, but three goals in a 2:02 stretch for the hosts built the lead to 14-6. AIC's defense locked in, and the offense pushed, with four goals in the last five minutes as MacDonald set up Seven Gillingham for a tally at 9:57 followed by another goal right off the faceoff as Carter Linkletter set up Ryan Levis for a pole-to-pole-to-goal strike 11 seconds later. Jacob Ligor then hit the net before setting up the final goal of the night with a feed to Linkletter for the 14-10 final.
Goode's three assists extends his program single-season record to 33; he has at least one assist every game and multiple assists in all but two of AIC's 12 contests, and he currently has the fifth-most in all of Division II.
Logan Dobrowski impressed with 15 saves in the setback. His 124 total saves ranks third in the NE10.
AIC closes the season on Saturday, April 19 against Southern New Hampshire University.
