SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - On his senior night, Tyler Goode scored eight points and closed out his career in the top ten in program history for points as the American International College men's lacrosse team fell 15-14 to Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday, April 19.
AIC ends the season at 2-11 overall and 0-8 in the NE10.
AIC jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 9:46, beginning with Jacob Ligor setting up Hunter Terlik for the senior offensive midfielder to net the first tally of the game just 1:37 in, and then Goode began dishing, setting up Seven Gillingham twice and finding Carter Linkletter once.
The Penmen pushed back, scoring three times down the stretch and tying the game just 35 seconds into the second; the latter two goals of their four-goal run were man-up. AIC retook the lead as Gillingham found Cole Gaudet open, and a back-and-forth battle ensued as the Penmen scored six of the next eight goals, with Goode setting up Camden MacDonald and Ligor striking unassisted for a 10-7 Penmen lead at the break.
Out of halftime, AIC was able to come back. Goode connected with Boyenko on a man-up marker, Terlik set up Ligor, and Goode found Boyenko open again at 9:05. The Penmen scored two quick tallies, but AIC answered those as well, with Gaudet hammering home a shot before Goode displaying his scoring touch with a man-up crease roll snipe into the left corner. Southern New Hampshire scored late in the quarter to take a 13-12 lead into the final frame.
Gillingham set up Terlik for a tying tally at 3:36, but the Penmen scored the next two and clamped down until late in the game. A storm blew through, and Goode scored what proved to be the game's final goal against heavy wind and rain. AIC had one final chance, but it was stopped as the Penmen held for the 15-14 win.
Goode's 83 career points moved him into 10th all-time in program history despite playing just 24 games; his 64 assists rank second behind only the late Aaron McNab '11, and his 39 helpers this season is the most in program history by a wide margin; he and McNab shared the previous record with 25. Additionally, at 3.00 assists per game this season, Goode ranks third in NCAA Division II.
Nick Mackay ended his career with 148 ground balls, 10th most in program history. Terlik closed his career with 31 goals and 11 assists for 42 points, leading the four seniors in goals. Gabe Zippin, who missed most of his final season due to injury, still generated 45 caused turnovers in his 42 games.
Carter Linkletter closed his sophomore campaign leading the NCAA in caused turnovers per game with 3.69; his 48 total give him 82 for his career, already ranking second and just 12 back of Eddie Beattie '20, '21 MBA, who holds AIC's program record with 94.
