SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College women's soccer team played effectively against first-place Saint Anselm College on Tuesday, October 21, falling 1-0 in Northeast 10 Conference play.
AIC is now 2-8-2 overall and 1-5-0 in the NE10.
Though the Hawks controlled possession for most of the first half, the defense for AIC held strong and only allowed three shot attempts; the most dangerous one was in the final seconds on a rush up field by Saint Anselm, but it was blocked away before reaching the goal.
In the second half, the visitors broke through on a corner kick. Meghan Deneen knocked a loose ball in from the netfront after Addison Jerome deflected Nicole Schneider's initial corner. The goal came at 67:19.
The Hawks had a few more chances to add to the lead but could not; apart from strong defense,
Sara Avery came up with several impressive saves among her five total for the game.
AIC returns to action on Saturday, October 25 at 4:00 p.m. at Pace University.
