Aces up! Women's Volleyball lands 21 serves, sweeps SNHU

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The ball was hardly in play all night as the American International College women's volleyball team aced 21 serves in a 25-4, 25-21, 25-8 win over Northeast 10 Conference foe Southern New Hampshire University on Tuesday, October 14.

AIC is now 12-3 overall and 3-0 in the NE10.

The string started early, with Daniella Russo-Lolas acing five serves, including four in a row, to put AIC ahead 8-0. After an attack error, the Yellow Jackets scored the next 11, and again it was largely at the serving line as Janelys Perez Cortes aced five serves during the run. Ultimately, the Yellow Jackets won the set 25-4, with Carissa Michel fittingly acing the set-point serve.

In the second set, the Penmen settled in, and even briefly took a lead thanks to three straight points, including a key combo block to go ahead 11-10. However, AIC was able to halt the momentum, and a late five-point run, centered around a pair of Perla Rosa aces, sealed the set, with Lajla Rasljanin scoring the final kill.

AIC ran away again in the third, jumping out to a 14-3 lead. Paola Soto Burgos individually had a run featuring a solo block and back-to-back kills as part of that stretch, and then shortly after put together four straight aces, which all but put the match away. Selin Guler scored AIC's final kill to give the Yellow Jackets match point, and the hosts won on an attack error.

Soto Burgos led the match with 11 kills and hit .476, while Rasljanin went 8-0-12 for a .667 attack percentage. Rosa made 13 digs, and Russo-Lolas dished 18 assists.
