Women's Volleyball comes up short at Bentley

WALTHAM, Massachusetts - The American International College women's volleyball team dropped a 21-25, 23-25, 19-25 Northeast 10 Conference battle at Bentley University on Saturday, October 18.

AIC is now 12-4 overall and 3-1 in the NE10.

The first set saw both offenses hit above .400 as the teams racked up 14 kills apiece. Bentley put together a big run to build a seven-point lead, but AIC fought back, scoring five straight to get within 23-21. However, the Falcons were able to finish off the set on a Sophia Poehlein kill.

In the second, Bentley once again built a five-point lead, but AIC scored six of the next seven and then tacked on a five-point run featuring two Lajla Rasljanin aces to go up 16-12. just as quickly, Bentley took the lead, scoring five straight. Both teams bounced the lead back and forth, with AIC getting ahead 23-21 on a Rasljanin block, but the Falcons ran four straight points to steal the set.

The third was yet another set of runs and lead trades as the two teams battled hard, but the Falcons put together two four-point stretches to put the final set out of reach. Elena Coban notched the final kill to win the set.

Paola Soto Burgos had a strong match, with 12 kills and a .308 attack percentage as well as seven digs. Perla Rosa made a match-best 16 digs and contributed six assists. Daniella Russo-Lolas passed 16 assists and also made nine digs.

AIC has some time off before facing Adelphi University in Garden City, New York at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28.
