SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College women's lacrosse team fell 16-7 to Saint Anselm College in the team's 2023 opener on Saturday, February 18.
The Hawks had a strong first quarter and took a 7-0 lead. AIC's lone goal of the first half was early in the second on a Liz Day free position shot, but Saint Anselm led 13-1 at the break.
AIC had a stronger second half, outscoring the Hawks 6-3. Day scored twice in the third quarter, and then early in the fourth, Madi Bis knocked a pass in the midfield down, scooping it and slinging it to Antonella Mikolyuk for a breakaway goal. Day notched a fourth goal, and Isabelle Stone scored her first of the season. AIC closed the game with a man-up goal with one second left as Gabrielle Walz netted her first collegiate tally.
AIC returns to action Saturday, February 25 at 4:00 p.m. against Caldwell.
