HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1
- The Yellow Jackets put pressure on the Chargers early. Senior Angel Mendez single to short on the sixth pitch of his at-bat. Rookie Jackson Haker singled to left before the pair coordinated a double steal to put two Yellow Jackets in scoring position. Sophomore Michael Nazzaro double to left and Mendez and Haker scored and the throw home allowed Nazzaro to take third. He scored on a ground out to the pitcher.
- The Chargers added a run in their half of the first and one in the third to make it a one-run game.
- AIC answered in the top of the fourth with three runs. Senior Dalton Quinn doubled down the left field line to get the inning started. He moved to third on a single by freshman Austin Bequeath before scoring on a single by classmate Alexander Morse. Bequeath and Morse moved up 90 feet as sophomore Michael Cruz singled to center and loaded the bases. Mendez dug in and hit a sacrifice fly to right to add a run for the Yellow Jackets' lead. The final run of the inning came when Nazzaro fell behind 1-2 on the count with the bases loaded and drew a 7-pitch walk and Morse scored.
- The runs kept coming in the fifth, all with two outs. Morse hit a single to short on the first pitch he saw before Cruz sent his first pitch to right and Morse went to third. They all came in when Haker took the seventh pitch of the at-bat over the fence in left to extend the AIC lead to 10-2.
- The Yellow Jackets added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh when Haker and Cruz scored on a double down the left field line off the bat of Nazzaro.
- The Chargers made a late push in the bottom of the seventh as they scored five runs on five hits. It was too little, too late as the Yellow Jackets took the game 13-7.
Game 2
- Just like the first game, the Yellow Jackets took a lead in the first inning. Mendez was at third when Haker struck out swinging but the ball got away from the catcher and Mendez scored.
- The Chargers scored two in their frame of the first to take their first lead of the day. They added an extra run in the second and one in the fifth to take the 4-1 lead.
- Down to their last three outs, the Yellow Jackets knew they had to pull things together. Rookie Kiernan Caffrey singled to right to get things going. After a strikeout, Morse singled to left followed by Mendez hitting a two-bagger and adding a tally to his RBI as Caffrey scored. Cruz walked to load the bases. Morse came around to score on a wild pitch. With two outs, Nazzaro singled to left and was tagged out going to second but not before Mendez and Cruz touched home to give AIC the 5-4 lead.
- The Chargers drew a lead-off walk before moving the runner to second on a bunt. Sophomore Ian Gallagher got Franquiz to fly out for the second out and the Yellow Jackets intentionally walked Wells to make a force out easier. It worked as Budzik grounded out to second to end the game.
