HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Eagles opened the game by scoring three runs in the first and one in the second to take a 4-0 lead.
  • With one out, senior Brandon Gaul singled through the middle and advanced to third on a single by senior Dalton Quinn. Freshman Austin Bequeath kept the single train going as he took his to left and Gaul came around to score. A walk to graduate Anthony Clark loaded the bases and sophomore Alexander Morse singled to left and Bequeath and Quinn scored to make it a one-run game. Junior Chad Lavelle was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. After a fly out, sophomore Cameron Fitzgerald drew a walk to tie the game. This allowed rookie Kiernan Caffrey to double to center and clear the bases to add three runs to the board. After a walk to Gaul, Quinn went deep to left and made it a 10-4 game.
  • The Eagles added a run in the third but the Yellow Jackets raised. With runners on second and third newcomer Jackson Haker doubled down the right field line to plate two Yellow Jackets.
  • Post scored a single run in the fourth but the Yellow Jackets took advantage of a leadoff double by Caffrey, who scored on a foul out to the first basemen who left the field of play with the ball after the catch along the Eagles dugout.
  • The top of the fifth started a major run for Post. They scored one run in the fifth and the sixth before going off for 12 runs in the seventh and three in the eighth to take the 23-13 lead.
  • In the bottom of the eighth, Haker led the inning with a single followed by a pair of Yellow Jacket outs. Gaul singled to center and a misplay by the centerfielder allowed Haker to score from first. Quinn was at the plate and singled through the left side and added an RBI to his season tally. Bequeath one-upped him and doubled to left center which allowed Quinn to score from first to make it 23-16.
  • That was the closest the Yellow Jackets got as the game was called after eight innings due to a lack of light.
NEXT UP:
  • The Yellow Jackets will hit the road to take on Assumption University on Wednesday, April 20 at 3:30 p.m.
