Strong third pushes SNHU past women's lacrosse

HOOKSETT, New Hampshire - The American International College women's lacrosse team could not overcome a third-quarter run by Southern New Hampshire University in a 20-10 Northeast-10 Conference loss on Wednesday, April 13.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The teams traded goals in the first five minutes, with Anevay Rice tying the contest on a goal with one second left on the shot clock at 4:40. However, the Penmen went on a run of seven goals over the next 20 minutes to take an 8-1 lead midway through the second.
  • AIC battled back in the final chunk of the second quarter, as Liz Day scored back-to-back goals before Leavitt set up Jordyn Galgay for a tally. The Penmen answered with 2:17 to play, but Antonella Mikolyuk won the next draw and scored nine seconds later to cut the deficit further. Finally, Leavitt drew a free position with mere moments left in the half and buried, cutting AIC's deficit to 9-6 at the break.
  • The Penmen opened the second half hot, scoring nine in the third and ultimately taking a 19-6 lead.
  • AIC tried to battle back, with Leavitt striking twice to complete her hat track, and then Rice found Elly Macdonald in front. Day ultimately hit the net to finish a hat trick as well in the final minute, but the Penmen earned the win, 20-10.
