HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1:

  • After retiring the side in the top of the first the Yellow Jackets went to work. After a lead-off double and stolen base by junior Michael Cruz, senior Dalton Quinn doubled to left to give AIC the lead. The bases were loaded with no outs when senior Brandon Gaul doubled to left and three runs came around to score. Gaul scored the final run of the inning on a single by junior Chad Lavelle.
  • Senior pitcher Mason St. Pierre retired the next three Purple Knights before the Yellow Jackets hung nine runs on six hits in the bottom of the second frame to take the 14-0 lead.
  • The Purple Knights put a run on the board in the top of the third despite not recording a hit due to Yellow Jacket mistakes.
  • St. Pierre kept rolling and didn't allow a hit through 4.1 innings and held St. Michael's to three hits in the game.
  • The Yellow Jackets added a run in the fourth, three in the fifth, and five in the sixth to take game one 23-1.

Game 2:

  • Just like the first game, the Yellow Jackets hung up five runs in their half of the first. Cruz led things off with a single followed by a Quinn ground-rule double. They both touched home when Gaul singled to left field. With runners on the corners, Lavelle singled to left to push another run across. The final runs of the inning came off the bat of freshman Brandon Edvardsen when he doubled to right and Lavelle and sophomore Michael Nazzaro scored.
  • The Purple Knights scored a run in the bottom half of the first and second before Lavelle and Edvardsen recorded back-to-back triples.
  • Saint Michael's made it a two-run game after scoring three runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth.

  • The Purple Knights added a run in the bottom of the fifth before AIC answered with one of their own in the next frame. Saint Michael's continued to put pressure on the Yellow Jackets as they score two runs in the top of the sixth and made it a three-run game.
  • Graduate James Flahive was able to put the Purple Knights down in order in the bottom of the seventh to seal the sweep for the Yellow Jackets.
