Baseball falls in spring break opener

Box Score BOCA RATON, Florida – The American International College baseball team headed south to play Lynn University as the Yellow Jackets opened a three-game series with the Fighting Knights on Friday, March 4. AIC fell by a score of 12-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Yellow Jackets put some pressure on the Fighting Knights in the second inning. Freshman Austin Bequeath hit a one-out single to center. After a fly out, senior Angel Mendez followed in Bequeath's footsteps with a single to center. AIC ended up stranding both on the bases.
  • Lynn returned the favor in the bottom of the fourth inning as the hosts loaded the bases. They plated the first run on an AIC error before adding another run on a single to take the 2-0 lead.
  • In the home half of the fifth, Lynn added to its lead by scoring eight runs.
  • In the sixth, junior Alejandro Mosquera had a one-out single and advanced to second on a wild pitch during the at-bat of graduate Anthony Clark. Senior Brandon Gaul singled up the middle to give AIC runners on the corners. Mosquera came around to score on a wild pitch to give AIC its first run of the game.
  • With two on and two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Gaul singled to center field and drove in freshman Jackson Haker.
  • Lynn added a home run late to bring the score to the 12-2 final.

  • AIC and Lynn will play game two of the three-game series on Saturday, March 5 at 2 p.m.
